Robin’s Lantern Quest

Staff and volunteer guide

1) Welcome sequence (what visitors need to know)

Inspired by a true story

  • Download App: Visitors download Robin’s Lantern Quest app from App Store / Google Play.

  • More section: The More section (available immediately after download) includes information about the quest and how to visit Wallington.

  • When to visit: The quest runs on site at Wallington, Dec 2025–Jan 2026.

  • On-site experience: Visitors must be at Wallington to play the quest and unlock lanterns.

  • Gameplay: Visitors follow clues to find six lanterns around the China pond. Once all six are collected, Robin’s AR skating scene is unlocked.

  • Wi-Fi/data: Once downloaded, the app works without Wi-Fi or mobile data.

  • Compatibility: Because the app delivers AR experiences, visitors need a device running iOS 16+ or Android 8.1+ to play.

What is Augmented Reality (AR)?
The app uses the phone camera to capture the real world, then overlays digital content (Robin and lanterns), so they appear to be in the same space as the visitor.

2) Clue sequence (how lanterns are found)

  • Collect six lanterns: Visitors follow clues to find six lanterns located around the China Pond.

  • Unlock lanterns (scanning): At each lantern location, visitors scan the lantern image to unlock it

  • Reveal the lantern: Once unlocked, the visitor rubs away cobwebs on the screen to reveal the lantern.

3) Learn More content

  • Learn More: Includes fun facts, nature notes, and historical highlights about the areas around each lantern location.

  • Unlock rule: Each clue card unlocks after the previous lantern is found and saved.

  • Accessing Learn More: Visitors access Learn More by selecting a lantern they’ve already found.

4) Lantern collection (unlocking AR)

  • Unlock AR: Visitors collect six lanterns to unlock AR View and Robin’s skating scene.

  • AR View: Visitors hold up their phones as if to take a photo of the pond, then select Go, and Robin and the lanterns will appear in front of them.

  • In AR View visitors can:

    • Visitors can move Robin and the lanterns around their screen to create their own scene.

    • Visitors can take photos of Robin with friends and family during their visit.

  • Play anywhere: Once AR View is unlocked, visitors can enjoy playing with Robin anywhere—at home or on holiday.

  • Encourage sharing: Invite visitors to share their photos and tag @wallington_nt.

5) Finish & More (rewards + information + reset)

  • Finish (completion reward): When visitors finish the quest, they unlock 20% off at the Clocktower Café. Visitors redeem by showing their completed lantern collection in the app. This reward must be used within 7 days of completing the quest.

  • Reset (play again): Reset lets visitors start the quest again.
It deletes all previously collected lanterns, so encourage visitors to use it with care.

  • More (useful information): The More section contains helpful information about the app and visiting Wallington. It’s available as soon as the app is downloaded (no quest progress required).
